About: The Cathedral of Saint Matthew is mother church to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington. It is located in Downtown near Dupont Circle and first opened in 1895. Notes:The unassuming exterior may be drab, but the interior is one of the most beautiful spaces in Washington and in BeyondDC’s opinion the best nave of all local cathedrals.
