1: Silver Line / Dulles
Metro or BRT 2010
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) and WMATA are working together to bring Metro to Tysons Corner, Reston, Dulles and Loudoun County. The Silver Line is, along with the Corridor Cities Transitway in Gaithersburg, the closest to reality of all current proposals. The Draft EIS was completed in summer 2002, with a final decision expected to be made in the near future.

2: Purple Line
Metro or Light Rail 2010, 2020 and Speculated
Beltway service in Northern Virginia can be broken down in to three sections:
- North: MTA and Montgomery County are coordinating planning for the first part of a beltway loop transit line that will begin in downtown Bethesda and end in New Carrollton. Once the first phase is complete Virginia plans on connecting to the loop via Tysons Corner and the Orange Line.
- South: Virginia and Maryland are working together to re-build the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Included in the plan is a proposal for Metro service linking the Eisenhower Avenue and Branch Avenue stations.
- Central: Though not included in any current proposals, once the Northern and Southern beltway components are completed it stands very likely that they'll be connected.
3: Columbia Pike / Route 7
Light Rail 2020
Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation lists a light rail line serving Columbia Pike and Leesburg Pike between the Pentagon and Tysons Corner as a 2020 goal. Little else is known about the project.
4: Route 7
Light Rail Speculated
BeyondDC speculates that when the Columbia Pike / Route 7 line (number 3 on the map) is complete proposals will be made for an extension along southern Leesburg Pike to serve the Seminary, King Street and Old Town neighborhoods of Alexandria.
5: Crystal City / Potomac Yard
